Lake Camp is the best place to bring your students for an intermediate outdoor education experience. We cater for students starting at senior primary in smaller groups to extend their previous camp experience into leadership development, through to secondary students with introductory expeditions in junior high and extended expo for Outdoor Ed senior students.

Environment

Lake Camp is ideally located for the complete outdoor camping experience. Set on 10 acres of coastal bushland, with direct access to Lake Victoria it is the perfect base for exploring these stunning waterways and national parks, there is no place like Coolamatong for the great outdoors!

We invite students to learn about the unique foliage and wildlife present in this environment, from water-watch testing, plant identification and seed collection, to bird watching and patting our resident echidnas!

Facilities & Accommodation

The Lake Camp has a fully equipped kitchen and dining hall with floor to ceiling windows revealing views over the lakes. There is seating for 60 people, video projection capability, and a cosy wood heater. The amenities block provides showers and toilets in separate sides for male and female.

At the Lake Camp we want to encourage students to engage with the natural environment during non-programmed times and thus we have refrained from installing activities that would detract from the sense of place that exists in such a natural location. Students can:

Explore the bushland
Participate in a standing treasure hunt for naturally occurring treasures
Use natural materials to build huts or play games
Investigate local animal and plant life with guided materials available throughout camp

Meals

Lake Camp serves hearty home style meals that are prepared on site by our cooks and are designed for energetic young people who are expending a whole lot of energy. Groups going out on expedition will be provided with a variety of simple meals and snacks that can be easily prepared, cooked and eaten at the campsite on the side of the track.

Dietary Needs

We will ask you for dietary information to be provided one week prior to camp to ensure that our cooks can prepare for any special dietary needs in your group. We regularly cater for gluten free, vegetarian, diabetic, lactose intolerance, and a variety of allergies. You are encouraged to contact us directly and speak with our cooks if you have a special need that will require a little extra care.

Concept 4 Night / 5 Day Program suited to Year 8 or 9 students

Note: The program above is based on a group of approximately 30-40 students. We design each program in partnership with the visiting school staff, modifying length, intensity, and core elements according to the needs of the group. The most effective way to find out if our programs could be right for your group is to contact us and discuss what you are trying to achieve through the program

Activities

All activities at Coolamatong have been risk-assessed and are run by qualified instructors, ensuring that your campers have a great experience, and that safety is always first. Each activity is chosen specifically for the experiential learning outcomes that they naturally achieve.

Some Of Our Activities Include

Sea Kayaking - spend a day out on the lakes, or go overnight; this is an experience that your group will not forget.
Mountain Biking - tour Eagle Point & Paynesville on the road or take to the tracks for genuine off roading.
Bush walking - discover the beauty of the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park, walk the 90 Mile beach - stunning!
